Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self Tanner

Josie Maran Liquid Gold Argan Oil

I have kept a bottle of Josie Maran’s argan oil in my skincare stash, so when I saw a self-tanner formula I knew I had to try it. Self-tanners get a bad rap for being orange and streaky, but depending on the application and product you choose it doesn’t have to be a faux pas. I have very fair skin, especially in the winter months so tanners that are ‘dark’ or ‘ultra dark’ look unnatural on my skin. I often reach for products that are buildable so I don’t wake up the next morning after a tanner application feeling shocked. Luckily I have some good things to say about the Josie Maran self-tanner, so let’s get right to it.

Pros

Buildable/Natural colour

The tanner is a moisturizing oil so it feels very sheer and light upon application. After the first application, it does give the skin some colour or a ‘glow’. If you want to look like you’ve spent a day at the beach I would highly recommend a second application. The best part is that you can apply as little or as much as you like to control the colour range.

Mitt Application

The self-tanner does come with a tanning mitt which is a plus since most product lines expect you to purchase it separately. It is also made from a super soft velour-like material which beats the cheap foam mitts and is super easy to wash.

Scent

I have yet to find a self-tanner that doesn’t eventually start to smell like a self-tanner in the hours following the application. Luckily the scent of the Josie Maran is subtle and the initial fragrance is quite pleasant. Of course, once you shower off the developer this won’t be an issue.

Moisturizing

Since the self Tanner is made with Aragan oil it makes your skin super soft. I always dread the process of applying a self-tanner, but because this product doubles as a moisturizer I always put it on right after I get out of the shower.

No Harsh Chemicals

I hate to think about what chemicals are used in most self-tanners. I know people argue that self-tanners beat sun damage but I can only think about the damage harsh chemicals can do to your skin. Because of this, I am reassured that this is not a problem with the Josie Maran self-tanner because it does not contain any parabens, sulfates, or phthalates.

Cons

Runs out Quickly

For some reason, I feel that I have to use a lot of this oil to cover one area, as a result, I’m running out of this product fast.

Colour is Light

As I mentioned above the color is buildable, but with that being said it takes a lot more time to achieve a deep tan colour. If you want to look like you’ve been on vacation I’m not so sure this product would achieve that. On the bright side if you are someone who just wants to have a naturally glowing skin, then I would highly recommend it.

I have a picture here showing what the product looks like after one and then two applications.
