Pick 6ix officially opened last month so it was only a matter of time that I was finally able to make an excuse to go check out it out.
For those of you who don’t know Pick 6ix is a restaurant collaboration between Drake and chef Antonio Park. Park grew up in South America but his Korean heritage lead him to take interest in Asian cuisine. Thus, Pick 6ix is a fusion restaurant that hosts many Asian-American dishes. Drake obviously brought his cool aesthetic and reputation which secures a defined audience for this restaurant.
While I looked over the dinner menu at Pick 6ix there are entire sections dedicated to Maki and Sashimi. For those who don’t take an interest in Sushi don’t worry, there are plenty of classic American dishes to choose from including Steak and Frites. Personally, if I want to eat a steak I will go to a steakhouse, so I saved that craving for another day.
For dinner, I choose the Lobster Maki and the Salmon Nigiri. The food came to the table in a timely fashion served with Pick 6ix signature soy sauce. The presentation of the food was also very nice. Unfortunately, the food itself was good, but nothing extraordinary. The salmon did not taste fresh. I think for the price and the reputation of this restaurant I expected the food to be better than average. The one thing I was impressed with was the Pick 6ix soy sauce. It has bold notes of a smokey flavour that make it much better than the run of the mill soy sauce.
The highlight of the restaurants for me truly was the interior. The gleaming gold accents match the retro vibe of this restaurant. The velvet booths definitely give off a luxurious feel. The ambiance Pick 6ix would be best for late dinner or drinks. I had 2 of the Lucuma Loca cocktails because they were so good! I think one thing they should implement in this place is a dress code. It seemed like anyone wearing anything could walk into this place. Watching multiple middle-aged men walk in wearing ball caps, an old t-shirt’s and sneakers made me feel like I was at the local pub.
Another thing I wanted to mention was the service at Pick 6ix. We were given the wrong menus upon being seated. Some of the staff were walking around having their own conversations. Our server also had gotten our order mixed up. I found that the staff don’t give off a professional vibe one would expect.
All in all, I will hit up Pick 6ix again but probably just for drinks. Since this restaurant is fairly new I would highly recommend making a reservation if you want to check it out.
