Beauty Supplements: Mineral Miracles for Hair, Skin, & Nails

Beauty Supplements

The vitamins and nutrients you get on a day to day basis reflect from the inside out. Taking the time to eat all your veggies isn’t exactly realistic if you have a busy schedule. Last year I finally got sick of my nails always being so short and brittle. I did some research online and started taking a few supplements to try to strengthen my nails.  After some significant improvement thanks to these vitamins I started reading more on how to solve more beauty related problems with supplements. Maybe you’ve seen one of those sugar bear beauty supplements that are promoted on Instagram by celebrities. Here is my version of that same idea without all the sugar, hype, and inflated prices.  If you’re looking to make improvements for shinier hair, strengthening nails, or glowing skin then consider the following list of supplements below.

Fish Oil

This is one of the most basic supplements you should be taking. There is a long list of health benefits that go along with taking Fish Oil.  Fish Oil contains two of the most important Omega 3 Fatty Acids.  Some have described fish oil as being similar to putting oil in your car, it ensures all the insides are working smoothly.

Beauty Benefits:

  • Boosts luminosity of hair
  • Reduces hair breakage
  • Hydrates skin
  • Discourages blemishes
  • Prevents skin aging

This vitamin is perfect for anyone looking to improve their general health, especially for a woman. Magnesium is considered a mineral powerhouse when it comes to skin performing at its best. It is actually commonly found in leafy greens!  I like to buy calcium+magnesium tablets so I have one less extra pill to swallow. I have also heard of magnesium in a liquid form that can be found in the refrigerated aisle in most health food stores.

Beauty Benefits:

  • Strengthens hair
  • Prevent free radical damage (wrinkles)
  • Combats skin allergies (hive & breakouts)
  • Encourages growth of new healthy skin cells

Niacin is also known as vitamin B3, if you want to get technical. Niacin is water soluble which means it helps your body turn food into energy. It also acts as a key player to signal the body to repair DNA and acts as an anti-oxidant (ouu.. fancy).

Beauty Benefits:

  • Promote health of the scalp
  • Firms skin
  • Thickens hair strands
  • Increases hair growth

All those high priced multivitamins that promise longer hair and nails are based around Biotin. It’s another B vitamin (B7) and is considered #1 for hair growth. During the colder months of the year, Biotin is especially important for keeping hair, skin, and nails healthy and hydrated.

Beauty Benefits:

  • Hydrates hair, skin, and nails
  • Strengthens hair strands
  • Prevents hair loss
  • Stimulates hair and nail growth

How to make sure you take your vitamins

It can be hard to remember to take your vitamins. I found buying a pill box that lays out my vitamins for the following week has helped me to remember. I have heard that it best to take your vitamins in the morning with a glass of water. Also, beware of the vitamin brands that you are buying. Over processed products often mean lower prices but isn’t always the best option to provide you with optimal results.

Also Important

Of course, I am not a doctor so therefore you should consult your physician about what vitamins you should be taking and how much. Don’t try to sue me because you OD’d on B3’s (kidding not kidding)
